There is only one day set aside each year to celebrate the contribution of the most important and in most cases, influential woman in a person's life: their mother. Mothers who wear an assortment of hats ranging from doctor, storyteller, chef, teacher, housekeeper, tutor, psychologist, monster-chaser and more, are those deserving women in our lives who go out of their way every day to ensure that we are happy, safe and successful.

The single mom works two jobs to put food on the table, rushes home and still has time to help her child with their homework, is celebrated for all the sacrifices she makes to ensure that her child(ren) have everything they need and more.

The stay-at-home mom arranges playdates, cooks, cleans, launders and organizes the household in such a way that can only be done by her. And she still finds time to play and laugh with her kids.

The working mom who works at juggling and balancing her home life and her work life succeeding in both worlds is a testament of how one person can rise to the occasion and gracefully achieve the seemingly impossible.

The new mom learns something new every day about her role as a mother while she sacrifices sleep, and works to comfort and nurture their new baby while dreaming of their future.

The mature mom watches as her children move away to go to college, get married and start families of their own as she waits with anticipation for the long-awaited visits, phone calls and vacations meanwhile dreams for the moment that her status is upgraded to: Grandma.

And finally, the moms we've lost.

Spring: a season for love, new life and growth. Most people report feeling a sense of renewed hope, an increase in energy and a positive outlook with the new season. New relationships often materialize, while mature relationships often experience growth, change or a season of nurturing. It is also the busiest season for wedding planners as they anticipate a full summer of upcoming weddings.

Historically, summer weddings were planned as a result of a temporary break in the agricultural calendar occurring in June. This gave newlyweds a month to spend together nurturing their new love and setting up their new home together. It was also a practical choice in the Middle Ages because the couple would be at their best after taking their annual bath at the end of May or into June. The Roman goddess of marriage, Juno, also popularized the month for weddings as it was thought that being married in the month named for her would result in prosperity and happiness for the couple. Flowers were in full bloom and the weather was consistently good, making it an ideal time to wed.

The tradition of summer weddings has continued into modern day. Even now, June and July remain the most popular months of the year in which to marry-leaving the spring to plan. The wedding planning process can become quite overwhelming which is why, after a spring engagement, it is often recommended to plan for a year in order to secure all the necessary details. Spring bridal shows are in full swing, sales on gowns and rings are in abundance and venues emerge out of hibernation to showcase their offerings to engaged couples.

Because the weather is mild and warm, spring is a great time to be out and about planning a wedding by viewing potential outdoor sites, tasting seasonal fare and looking at floral possibilities. Rings and dresses can be custom ordered in advance leaving time to plan the other pressing details of the event. Inspiration for creativity is also enhanced in the spring with the changing weather and outdoor landscape. Fresh new colours can be seen all around and incorporated into a colour scheme and themes for the wedding.

The dreary winter days are over and couples can embrace the excitement of being engaged in spring and planning their special event through the changing seasons.

Since the downturn of the economy there has been a distinct shift in the wedding industry. An industry that has been characterized by superfluous gestures, extravagant budgets and sometimes outrageous concepts has begun to experience the effects of the economy in a big way. Now, more and more, the bride and groom are looking for ways to save money in order to secure a stable future. Some couples have opted for downsizing their guest list. Others have embraced a vintage or do-it-yourself approach to all the wedding details. And others have determined that eloping is the best way to save money. Ironically, however, the elopement is becoming more elaborate.

Wedding planners across the globe are beginning to see a difference in the way an elopement is approached. Historically, and according to its definition, eloping is a sporadic, often hasty marriage. Typically only the bride and groom are in attendance, Las Vegas is the most popular destination, and occasionally a few close friends or immediate family members are invited to share in the secretive event. All in all though, the elopement is usually a spontaneous occasion. Today, however, couples are approaching wedding planners to lay out the details of the elopement.

This may be a contradiction at first glance but, it still maintains certain qualities to consider it to be eloping. Brides and grooms are still looking for the quaint, intimate approach of an elopement, the shortened span of time used to plan, and most importantly, the removal of unnecessary guests and expenses. But, with one small change--they still want the romance and the glitz.

There may only be two witnesses and the couple in attendance but this enamoured pair is planning out the flowers, the princess gown, the picturesque setting, the customized vows, and the three-tiered cake--just for them. It's the perfect blend of glamorous wedding meets minimized elopement. It's an elaborate elopement. And though the price tag is smaller, as is the guest list, the occasion still maintains that 'big wedding' feel with all the trimmings.

Keeping Up With Celebrity Style

Keeping Up with Celebrity Style

In today’s society it is often intriguing to note how heavily we are influenced by pop culture and celebrity styles. Before televisions were a household staple, streaming videos became a cultural norm and Facebook and Twitter took over our social interactions, the media frenzy was severely muted. While there were strong socialites present, their reach was stinted and limited to larger urban areas and even then, the exposure was not to the extreme it is now. With that in mind, style in jewelry and fashion has evolved into a whirl of activity and state of constant change.

Jewelry trends have especially been affected by pop culture as young stars have begun to influence the next generation of consumers by becoming style entrepreneurs. Famous child stars have begun to branch off into designer clothing lines, perfumes, accessories and jewelry-most famously the Olsen twins. Designing unique signature pieces and a collection of funky-styled jewelry, the twins have made a mark on the jewelry scene catering to the elite market. Other stars have followed suit creating their own jewelry pieces-usually with a high price tag attached.

Celebrity weddings have also played a role in influencing designers to create signature look-a-like pieces and also inspiring unique collections. Most recently, the Royal wedding inspired designers across the globe to create affordable rings and jewelry that closely mirrored the jewelry worn by Princess Kate. Merging the classic style of the Royal heirloom jewelry with that of a modern feel, jewelers targeted a contemporary demographic; creating timeless pieces.

Although the tendency of consumers to follow celebrity jewelry trends has increased in recent years, there remains a large portion of the market dedicated to creating unique pieces for the consumers who are looking to express their own style. This is why some designers such as Titanium Rings are focused on creating one-of-a-kind pieces with the added feature of personal customization. Obviously every designer will have some outside influences on their collections-including celebrity influence-but it is ultimately up to the consumer as to what is purchased and appreciated, thus, moving the market in specific directions.

The History of the Ring Bearer

With Spring fast approaching, wedding planning season is fast on its heels. Wedding shows, bridal fairs and nuptial-related events are in full swing to assist brides and grooms-to-be with all the details surrounding their special day.

As couples begin to make decisions, one of the most important aspects in planning for a wedding is determining which traditional elements to include. Typically in modern weddings, the exchange of wedding rings and the incorporation of a flower girl and ring bearer are included without much thought to the history behind the tradition.

The ring ceremony is usually viewed as one of the most central elements in a wedding ceremony. The exchange of rings during the wedding ceremony, however, has only recently become an integral part of weddings. During some periods of history such as the Puritan Age, rings were thought to be pagan and were not used to institute marriage whereas in other historical eras, the absence of a ring exchange during a marriage ceremony was thought to be bad luck or ill-fated for the couple.

As with the history of the ring ceremony, the history of the ring bearer has evolved and has been highly dependent upon the culture of the time.

The Page (first documented in the Medieval era), a young servant boy, was responsible for carrying the train of the bride’s dress along with a prayer book and in some ceremonies, the rings to be exchanged between the bride and groom. Because of the importance of the dress duties, the Page was to be no younger than seven years old. This tradition has continued into modern times. A pillow was incorporated due to the wealth that it represented (pillows were a scarce commodity) as well as the symbolism of good fortune for the couple. Rings were tied or secured onto the pillow for the Page to deliver to the altar for exchange.

The role of the ring bearer in today’s wedding ceremonies has evolved slightly as often symbolic rings are secured to the pillow rather than the actual rings exchanged (usually kept in the care of the best man). Another change has been the removal of the dress duties. Most ring bearers now precede the bride as opposed to following behind. Pillows are still frequently used, however, to make it easier for younger ring bearers sometimes a teddy bear or other personal item is utilized for carrying the rings. In some cases a family pet takes the place of a human ring bearer for an added personal touch.

Regardless of the inclusion or exclusion of a ring bearer in the wedding ceremony, the ring exchange still remains an important symbolic exchange between the bride and groom of commitment and love-a timeless tradition.

The Luck O’ the Irish Ring

When you think of the Irish, potatoes, whiskey, the color green and a long history of blessings and belief in luck often come to mind. Also in the forefront of people’s minds are the distinct designs that can be found in Irish jewelry. Traditionally, most Irish jewelry has been heavily influenced and inspired by Celtic culture. Ornately carved knots, claddaghs and crosses capture the essence of the rich symbolism and myths that characterize Ireland. Today, many rings, pendants and statement pieces incorporate themes and ideas stemming from Irish jewelry.

The Celtic knot is one of the most popular designs incorporated into rings today. The delicately designed metal work was said to be the “work of angels” due to the minute detail of the rings. Each knot was carefully intertwined with the next creating a seamless series of knots lacing through the ring. Drawing from the belief that all life is connected, the Celtic design reflects the intricacies and interconnectedness of people to everything and everyone around them. Various styles of knots represent strength while others represent love, hope and other virtues.

Another common design found in Irish jewelry is the claddagh. Traditionally the claddagh has been used to express love and friendship. While the original story behind the ring is debated, the symbol of enduring affection can be agreed upon. A claddagh ring traditionally consists of a heart in the center which symbolizes love. The heart is surrounded on either side with hands which represent friendship and finally, a crown (an element which is sometimes present) to symbolize fidelity. The ring has been used for centuries as a traditional Irish or Celtic wedding ring as it encompasses all the qualities that were thought to make up a healthy marriage. Claddaghs are often passed down through generations and are worn by married and unmarried individuals. The custom practice for wearers of claddaghs is to wear the heart facing inward if they are spoken for and if single, wear the heart facing outward on the right hand to signify availability.

A third design element present in Celtic-influenced rings is the symbol of the cross. Celtic crosses have four arms that are equal in length and are said to pre-date Christianity. The cross itself represents the four elements: earth, fire, water and air and is backed by a circle symbolizing eternity. Following the introduction of Christianity the cross was elongated incorporating a circle in behind.

Using the intricately designed ancient jewelry as inspiration, many modern ring manufacturers, including Titanium Rings have incorporated elements of Celtic ring design into their own work. Drawing from the rich, symbolic history of the Irish, titanium rings include knotwork, carvings and interconnected swirls into the circumference of the ring. These elements give the rings the look and feel of the traditional Celtic designs thereby, melding the ancient with the modern in the world of jewelry.

Colored Gems Trending in 2012

As the snow begins to melt and signs of spring are starting to show on the horizon, the fashion and jewelry industry is heating up. Fashion weeks have started globally and new designs are being showcased-complemented by the latest bling. As models grace the catwalks in New York, Toronto, London and other major global cities, consumers will begin to see the trends emerge for purchase.

One of the jewelry trends of 2012 are colored gemstones. The incorporation of colored gemstones along with diamonds is one of the most popular emerging trends this year. Muted peaches, pinks and pale blues are highlighted this spring season adding a hint of color to any ensemble. Clusters of gemstones including a choice of sapphires, aquamarines, pearls, topazes or lightly colored rubies are making their mark in ring settings and being used to accent various fashion pieces.

Classic jewelry styles from years ago are also making a comeback this spring with a focus on emeralds, rubies and diamonds. These glamorous show-stopping gems are being set in new and modern designs but also being reintroduced in classic styles for purchase in bracelets, long earrings, necklace and ring form. Asymmetrical arrangements are the most common styles giving every outfit a unique look. The use of colored metals is also being highlighted this spring incorporating anodized metals along with classic metallic looks in titanium, gold and platinum.

Rounding out the season is a push for geometry in gemstones. Rectangles, squares, and bold, large geometrical pieces are making a statement on runways. Utilizing one-of-a-kind settings and patterns, geometric gemstones are wowing designers and allowing customers to choose a strong way to express themselves through their jewelry. Larger pieces may be heavy when traditional metals are used but when incorporating titanium as the base for the design, gemstones can be large without the added weight.

By following the stylings of this spring’s fashion trends and purchasing rings and jewelry using unique designs, bold settings and colored gemstones-this season is sure to take buyers out of the winter blues and into the splashes of spring.

Accessorizing: A Personal Choice

Accessorizing: A Personal Choice

Like anything else in life, choosing a ring is a very personal decision. Many see their jewelry and accessories as an extension of themselves and therefore, need time to determine pieces that speak to them or that represent who they are. In recent years, not only has the choosing of accessories and jewelry become a more intimate practice but the design and fabrication of those items has become equally as intimate. The ability to personalize rings and jewelry has been growing in popularity as people have begun to embrace a more individualized approach to many areas of their lives including accessorizing.

Traditionally rings and jewelry have been mass-produced leaving consumers little choice when it comes to the design and personalization process. A few designs were released to the public, consumers picked their bling by viewing the samples in a glass case or in some instances leafing through a catalogue and the order was placed for a manufactured, mass-produced piece of jewelry. Because of the small selection, often times personal tastes were sacrificed and the incorporation of unique touches were dismissed. Now, in response to a growing demand for customization, creative design and unique pieces, some jewelers are looking for innovative ways to meet the desires of consumers.

One way that Titanium Rings has satiated this desire for customization is in the element of design. Not only can buyers choose to incorporate elements that they like but can choose to design the ring according to their specifications. Custom engraving, elaborate carvings and sentimental markings can all be included in the design of the ring. Gemstones can also be specially requested to suit the personal stylings of the couple or individual. Colours may also be included in the design of the ring incorporating anodized titanium in a variety of hues.

Another key measure that has been taken to ensure individualization is embraced is in the aspect of production. All of the rings at Titanium Rings are made to order; mass-produced jewelry does not exist. Gone are the days of cookie-cutter weddings and engagements with rings thereby following suit. Handcrafted and designed in-house, this jewelry truly is one-of-a-kind.
No ring is the same, for personalities and preferences vary from customer to customer. In response, Titanium Rings continues to deliver, beautiful statement pieces that speak to individuals, giving customers unique, high-quality, pieces of jewelry that are an extension of who they are.

Proposal Planning 101

Proposal Planning 101
As Valentine’s Day fast approaches, the quest for romance intensifies. Couples everywhere are beginning to plan a night out, a romantic rendezvous and in some cases a proposal of marriage scheduled for February 14th.
Some publications have reported that 85 per cent of all engagements take place over the Christmas holidays with Valentine’s Day ranking a close second.
The emphasis on love this time of year plays a large role in encouraging couples to take the next step in their relationship.

While the decision to become engaged may seem monumental enough, the person proposing must conjure up some clever or creative way to pose the most important question of their life.
And as of 2012, there is a new trend when it comes to proposals.
Most people have heard of, used, or considered a wedding planner when trying to orchestrate their special day but few have looked at using a proposal planner.
In a new article featuring event planners based in New York, the current shift towards elaborate, creative, over-the-top proposals has spurred on event planners to begin offering ‘Proposal Planning’ as part of their services for couples.

Gone are the days of simply hiding the ring in a piece of cake at a restaurant or popping the question with a Cracker Jack ring until you replace it with a proper diamond titanium ring.
Keeping in line with the trends of bigger and more elaborate weddings, the proposal now needs to be to scale in order to match.

Flashy, state of the art, destination proposals are now being organized and can be found more frequently on Vimeo and Youtube channels.
With advances in technology and access to information at its peak, couples are finding more ways to creatively express their love.
When stumped for an idea however, or unsure as to how to proceed with details, there are Proposal Planners to help.
The idea of proposal planning is seen by some to be a set-back in terms of romance as convention states that the person proposing should have the faculties to create their own proposal.
Others are seeing this shift as a way in which grooms-to-be can take control of one crucial aspect in the wedding planning before the bride takes over the bulk of responsibility.

Regardless of how the proposal planning services are viewed, the cost of the consultations can range in price from $500 dollars for the idea or concept to $10,000 dollars or more to put the plan into motion; a price that some may deem ‘worth it’.
This Valentine’s Day, if you are at a loss as to how to propose, now you have additional resources : Begin with a beautiful, tension set titanium ring and allow your local Proposal Planner to assist with the rest.

The Language of Love

The Language of Love

As the shelves are cleared of the last of the Christmas merchandise, consumers are greeted with a familiar sight: Valentine’s Day products. Chocolates encased in heart-shaped boxes, stuffed animals that sing familiar love songs and a sea of red, white and pink greet shoppers in virtually every department: a strong reminder that consumers are encouraged to purchase gifts to demonstrate their love for significant people in their lives.

This push to buy love-saturated goods though is sometimes overshadowed by the panic of buying the ‘right’ gift for the one you love. k Recognizing the different ways that people receive and interpret love, or ‘love languages’ that exist can help even the most flustered buyer this season to purchase an appropriate gift for a significant other.

One of the love languages, as developed by Dr. Gary Chapman a renowned marriage counselor, is quality time : When the request to ‘spend more time together’ is frequently expressed, this can mean that the person’s main love language is quality time. A Valentine’s gift that focuses on uninterrupted time spent as a couple such as a dinner out, a carefully planned evening with no distractions and good conversation will score points with the ‘quality time’ person.

Another love language to look for is giving gifts. Typically, this dialect can be mistaken for consumerism or materialism but in reality, the individual does not merely focus on the gift that is given but the manner in which it is given and how much thought is put into the gift : Does the gift reflect their personality? Was there great lengths taken to purchase the item?

Flippant, last-minute purchases will not be received well in this case but rather personalization, customization and uniqueness will be greatly appreciated. Engraved items, birthstone titanium rings, and unique custom designed items make good gifts for this person.

-Acts of service is yet another love language your significant other may speak. This is seen as the least classically ‘romantic’ of the languages as something as simple as doing the household chores will communicate love to this person.

-Creating a book of coupons that can be redeemed in exchange for everyday jobs is a creative way to tell this person you love them and value what they do.

Regardless of the dialect your love speaks, or combination of those listed above, it is imperative especially around Valentine’s Day to take personality, tastes and depth of your relationship into consideration when purchasing a gift. A classic titanium ring may be most appropriate for a blossoming romance while a birthstone ring communicates a deeper connection.

Consequently, taking the time to thoughtfully demonstrate love this Valentine’s Day will prove to make this season of love less stressful and more meaningful !

New Jewelry and Fashion Trends

New Year = New Jewelry and Fashion Trends

As millions participated in New Years’ festivities around the globe, they all watched the year 2011 fade away along with all its trends and fashion. For some, 2012 marked the beginning of a comeback of sorts from the recession that has been felt all over the world; for others, 2012 was the start of embracing positive life changes associated with job or family; and in the world of fashion, 2012 saw the launch of changes in the way that consumers select and purchase items for their use.

According to various consumer reports for 2011, the biggest trend to affect retailers in the world of fashion is the demand for personalization of products. The age demographic with the most purchasing power in the market (35-55) is now purchasing products with an expectation of being able to customize orders to suit their tastes and needs.

With seemingly ubiquitous access to information via smart or mobile phones, tablets and laptops, consumers are becoming increasingly aware of the value of products, and are now continually comparing similar products to gauge trends and prices.

The aspect of customization and personalization has impacted the jewelry market as well : Brides-to-be who historically purchased traditional wedding sets or accessories are now looking to make a unique statement with their jewelry.

Couples are looking for ways for their personality to shine through in all aspects of their wedding and are no longer content with a ‘cookie-cutter’ event, right down to their jewelry. Similarly, in accessorizing, unique statement pieces of jewelry are being purchased as a way of expressing one’s self or as an extension of individualization. Deciding to purchase any ‘bling’ now carries deeper meaning for shoppers.

In the world of titanium rings, customization and personalization is emphasized and encouraged. As choosing titanium over other precious metals is in itself a unique choice, the aspect of creating one’s own design further allows the consumer to express their personality as well as their very own tastes.

The addition of one or more anodized colors in the titanium ring creates different colored hues, and steps up the wow-factor as well as the exclusivity of the piece. Incorporating different gemstones in the ring can also allow the consumer to further personalize the ring.

As a result of titanium’s versatility and personalization factor, when it comes to rings, consumers will have their 2012 expectations met.

A Do-It-Yourself Approach to Wedding Jewelry

Over the last decade there have been major shifts in the wedding industry. From trimming costs of the main event to trends in customization, couples are changing the way weddings look, feel and are carried out. One of the many rising trends of the past year in 2011 is a do-it-yourself approach to the big event in response to the economic slump in the past three years. Hiring staff to plan and execute a wedding is out of reach budget-wise for most couples. As a result, this trend has impacted many areas of planning a wedding, including the purchasing of jewelry.

In a recent report released by The Wedding Report Inc. on average, in 2011, the amount spent on wedding bands and engagement rings decreased by an estimated 20 per cent in the United States (comparable in Canada). Engaged couples are beginning to extend their engagement period (upwards of 12 months) in an attempt to save as much money for their special day as possible. The amount of money that would have historically been spent on jewelry and other wedding expenses is now being put towards larger ticket items such as a home or car. Jewelry is being carefully selected for price point, originality and the raw materials used in crafting the items.

Utilizing recycled materials, environmentally-friendly products and vintage pieces have also been a rising trend in the wedding industry pairing nicely with the do-it-yourself approach. Brides and grooms are making their own invitations using recycled paper, purchasing ‘green’ items for guest favours and embracing a globally-conscience mindset when planning their event. Even in the selection of the engagement ring and wedding bands, couples are looking for a combination of personalization paired with global responsibility that can be seen in the selection of gemstones and metals used in the making of rings. One such metal that is being sought for wedding rings is titanium as new designs and customization of titanium rings has become widely accessible to couples.

As couples have shifted to being more hands-on in the planning and execution of their weddings the ability to personalize titanium rings has increased appeal in 2011 and will continue to see growth in 2012. The ability to track every aspect of how the ring is designed and crafted allows couples to have a true do-it-yourself approach with a smaller price tag attached.

Titanium Engagement Rings: A Solid Choice

Planning an engagement, a wedding and ultimately a lifetime together with the one you love typically begins with choosing the perfect ring. A ring is given to represent an unbroken bond of love between two people and serves as a significant reminder of the commitment to each other in a relationship. Choosing the perfect ring to not only represent the unique personality of the betrothed and serve as a timeless symbol of devotion can sometimes be a daunting task; however, with new designs and raw materials to work with, choosing the perfect ring can become an exciting and enjoyable experience.

Since the age of the Romans, rings acting as a symbol of betrothal or engagement were exchanged. Several dignitaries and royals were said to have given their beloved a diamond ring but it was not until the 20th Century that the engagement ring was popularized for the general population. In North America, only women typically wear engagement rings, while in other countries, both the bride-to-be and groom-to-be wear engagement rings.

The diamond ring has become the most socially acceptable engagement ring, but depending on the couple and cultural background, heirloom rings with multiple stones and rings with other gemstones are sometimes exchanged. Gold, silver, platinum, and now titanium bands can house gemstones and can be custom-designed to create a unique ring for a loved one. The durability and the affordability of titanium is attracting an increasing number of couples that seek to design and purchase engagement rings.

In the recent economic climate, couples are seeking ways to make weddings and engagements more affordable, thereby minimizing expenses. One of the most reasonably priced metals available for engagement rings is titanium. Available to be carved or etched with a custom design, titanium can also encase beautiful gemstones. Diamond solitaire rings, tension set diamonds, and cluster settings are just a few of the available designs using titanium for the band. The appearance of titanium is a silvery color that can have a sheen added to it to complement gemstones in the design of the ring.

Titanium rings are a rising trend with couples looking to get engaged as they not only symbolize a lasting love and allow for couples to carefully design rings that represent their unique personalities, but also offer a budget-friendly alternative. When looking for the perfect ring to begin a lifetime together, titanium is definitely a solid choice.

Titanium Rings: A Growing Market

In the past few years there has been a consumer trend to purchase rings made of precious metals other than gold. Due to the rising price of gold in the last decade to nearly $1700 per ounce and a rising global demand for precious metals, consumers are starting to seek more affordable rings made of alternative metals. Manufacturers have recently stepped up to offer more options for consumers by creating alloys made of more economical metals. One of these metals happens to be Titanium. Titanium is not only more affordable than gold but has some special qualities that are attracting buyers.

Known for its durability and strength, titanium is great for those who tend to be tough on jewelry. Because of this attribute, titanium is drawing in more male consumers looking for a lightweight, strong material for their rings. The strength of the metal is equally matched with its ability to withstand scratching and tarnishing. In the workplace, these qualities can mean the difference between wearing a ring and not. While most manufacturers will not guarantee a scratch-resistant ring, the ability for titanium to be re-finished despite some scratching is an enduring quality especially for the male population.

Titanium is also a great option for people suffering from metal allergies. Titanium is non-toxic to the human body and therefore considered hypo-allergenic. This makes titanium a more widely accessible metal than gold and silver-metals that many consumers struggle to wear due to reactions.

The aspect of originality and uniqueness of titanium is also attracting buyers. While the vast majority of couples purchase matching gold or platinum wedding bands, many couples are now opting to design and produce their one-of-a-kind rings made of titanium. Working together with a jeweler to create a lasting design specifically reflecting the couple’s unique bond is proving to be a growing trend. And with new concepts and techniques for creating titanium rings being developed, this is truly a growing market.

Titanium as compared to the various other jewelry metals such as gold, platinum, silver and tungsten (metal-ceramic)

Color and Color Variations

Titanium is naturally a grey-silvery metal, but has the ability to be anodized in several colors as well as black diamond treated for a glossy durable black look.

Tungsten is a similar grey-silver colored metal-ceramic that can also sometimes be found treated with some black coatings for a shiny black look.

Gold is usually 'carated' mixed with other metals to add durability due to its natural softness. These other metals can alter the color of the gold to make softer yellows, whites-greys, pinks and other more recent colors.

Platinum is a whiter silver color than titanium.

Silver has a very white silvery look.

Durability (scratching,bending,breakage, and setting security)

Titanium is very resistant to bending, cracking and has good scratch resistance. Stone settings in titanium resist loosening very well. Titanium's high strength allows innovative and more delicate stone setting than traditional softer jewellery metals.

Tungsten, being actually a metal-ceramic, has very high hardness and brittleness. Its resistance to scratching is the best, but it comes at a cost of tougness. If hit or shocked hard enough, tungsten will actually break instead of flex, therefore destroying the ring. Tungsten does not allow stone settings other than a few added-on gold or silver settings.

Gold usually has good durability, but will wear down over the years. Scratches will reduce the brightness of its polish or other finishes quite quickly. Gold can bend if stressed moderately, but it will usually never crack unless very thinned by wear. Stone setting in gold cover a wide range of traditional designs, but is not strong enough for many creative new setting designs. Setting in gold can loosen over time.

Platinum resists wear due to its almost rubbery nature. It will lose its lustre with scratches, but the metal will remain intact better than gold or silver. Platinum will deform under moderate stress, but will almost never break. Settings in platinum have a better durability record than in gold or silver, but will still loosen over time more than titanium. Platinum is usually too soft to allow many new stone setting styles.

Silver is the most soft jewellery metal. It scratches very easily and can bend even with moderate wear, but is unlikely to break. Stone settings in silver are usually more bulky to add durability. Darkening from tarnishing oxidation can also be a problem.

Weight

Titanium is very light weight. Its light weight may even surprise some people. It has been described to "feel is if it is not even there".

Tungsten and platinum are the heaviest jeweller metals, while carat golds and silver are somewhat less heavy. The light weight of titanium has an added advantage of remaining stable and not rotating on the finger, therefore keeping the stone setting more often in sight and not needing regular readjustments to have the correct look.

Bio-compatability

Titanium, even in its higher strength alloy form known as "aircraft-grade titanium" is perfectly bio-compatable. Aircraft-grade titanium is commonly used for surgical implants and dental fittings than pure titanium, as it is more resistant. Titanium is the only known "foreign" material that living tissue will attach onto.

Platinum is the only other jewelry metal that is highly bio-compatable. Tungsten, silver and carat golds have been know to cause allergic reactions in some people. Silver being probably the metal with the greatest occurance of this trouble.

Martin
November 17, 2011

Message:
It is hard for me to comment on the ring I bought and the service received without sounding like I am a company employee, which I am not. Am actually a security consultant in the middle east. The ring I ordered was the Abyss edition in satin finish with the clear diamond treatment. It is 12mm wide and all I can say is, this is one awesome piece of jewelry. It is large bold and a proper mans wedding band. I myself am a former military diver and engineer that has worked with titanium in the past and so always liked this material. If you read the book the Abyss you will understand fully the significance of the titanium ring and what the strong metal stands for. Since reading the book many years ago I always wanted such a ring but never thought beyond the boundaries of usual and lets face it boring gold. It was by chance I seen a link saying Abyss replica wedding band and so I was taken to this site and was amazed to find the ring that had inspired me so many years before.

OK, thats my short story of the actual ring and the metal but also to note is the service received. All emails were answered promptly and I even made the order to the wrong address and this got sorted out with no issues and changed to the correct address. Sounds simple but there are many companies that seem to fail bad on that one.

Friendly emails as well and I got the sense that the people handling my order took pride in it and were as happy as i was that the ring was well received.

Thanks to you all and feel free to publish my comments

Martin

I just wanted to drop you all a line and say thanks. I have had my wedding band for 10 years. It is still as round as the day I got it. It actually saved me from getting my hand smashed once. It might not be as smooth and shiny as the day I got it, but I have put it through the wringer. It was the first and definitely the best internet purchase I ever made! Jeramy - Kentucky

I am writing to thank you for the beautiful band I had made for my husbands wedding ring. My husband is an avid outdoorsman and rock climber as well as a builder and before we got married, he refused to purchase a ring because he was afraid he would either destroy it or lose it or not even wear it since he considers rings uncomfortable. Well, I took a chance and ordered him you abyss style--hoping it would change his mind about wearing a wedding band. We have now been married for one year and he absolutely LOVES his ring--it is so comfortable that he wears it all the time and doesn't even notice he has it on because it is so light. He has also kept it in beautiful, perfect condition without even trying to (I can't say so much for my wedding set) He gets compliments on the ring all the time and I believe he is actually proud of it. Thank you for making such a beautiful (and strong) product--all men out there need this ring.

Hello, My name is Graham Tushingham, and I purchased an Eclipse ring from you about a year ago, and I just wanted to send you some comments. I just happened to revisit your website and I am amazed at how many new styles you have. They all look absolutely incredible, even though I am still thrilled with the choice I made. Judging by your service and quality of your products, I have no doubt that you will continue to be very successful.

Hi there,my name is Pamela & I have just FINALLY received the engagement ring that my now fiance Jamie & I had made in the summer :) Having only been allowed to get properly sized & then being sent back out to the car while my other half & Chantal at the Gallery worked out the rest of the details & styling ...I just now have gotten to see the finished ring! All I can say is --it's GORGEOUS! As I'm sitting here admiring it in the sunlight, I thought I should send you all a note to say "Thank-you "& tell you how amazing it looks! We will definitely be contacting you soon to have the matching bands with gold inserts made for our wedding! Thanks again for all your time, help & talent :)

Hi Colleen! I just wanted to let you know that we received our rings the other day, and they are absolutely beautiful!!! Thanks for all your help with the order process! You are an asset to the company :) Hopefully we won't need to replace a ring again, but if we do, I know where we will be getting the replacement from. Of course, that does not necessarily mean that we won't be ordering another ring at some point! Just for the fun of it :-D There are so many tempting rings to choose from!!! Thanks again!

Dear Colleen, I wanted to thank you for all your help over the last few weeks. I received the rings on Thursday and as planned, got married on Friday morning. The rings are absolutely beautiful, even more so than I imagined looking at the pictures on the website. This is the second time that your company has come through with a wonderful product and excellent service. Now, in addition to my engagement ring, I have the wedding ring to match. My husband and I both want to thank you and your jeweler for making our wedding day so special! :)) Thank you again, Jane & Daniil U

The rings made it to Alex's work yesterday afternoon and we opened the box last night. The rings are absolutely perfect!! We love them! Alex's fits much better and he loves the finish. Mine fits great beside my engagement rings and the thickness is just perfect. My ring seems so tiny, I can't believe you actually got the engraving in there!! Thank you so much for all your help and understanding. We have had nothing but exceptional service from your company and will definately recommend you to anyone who will listen. Sincerely, Lorah P

Hello Tanya,Colleen I would like to thank you for the rings you made for me and Ilka they are fantastic, Unfortunatly we made a small mistake when we were measuring the ring for Ilka it is at the moment 16mm inside diameter and is slightly too small. The problem is the ring is too tight to pass over the joint. We have sent the ring back to your workshop in the hope that you can make it a little bigger,17.6mm(55 std European size) would be the correct size.We are very sorry for this mistake and hope you can help us.If it is not possible to make it so much bigger please let us know. Yours Gavin & Ilka

I just wanted to tell you "thank you." The ring arrived at the hotel in New York City as scheduled on Tuesday morning. It fit perfectly; he was very surprised, and delighted with the ring itself. Thank you so much for going out of your way to be so helpful ---so many times, I hear people complain that you can't get good service these days; well, you have certainly proven them wrong! I will spread the word, most certainly! Thank you once again and I wish you a very happy and healthy new year. Catherine L

Dear ARNELL Workshop Inc. I am well pleased with the "Crater" ring that you all crafted for me. The engraving thereon was very well done to my complete satisfaction. It was a pleasure to do business with each of you. You know what your doing and do what you know, very well! Your Internet website is also a great interface for your products to say nothing about your personnel. Tanya, Beth, et al are wonderful representatives for your company! They have a great 'customer-side manner.' When the engraver takes the time to answer E-mails because of the technical nature of a question then one knows they are dealing with a 'class operation' interested in getting it right the 1st time. Kudos to Roy Arnell and his Staff! I'll highly recommend your products and craftsmanship to others as opportunity presents itself. Keep up the excellent work! Gratefully Yours, John C (Colleen, Sorry I left your name off my E-mail but certainly you're included. If Roy would like to use my E-mail in you all's Website as a "customer reaction" your welcome to do so! God Bless!)

Jason's Family

Dearest Titanium Workshop: As promised, I am sending you a letter letting you know how much my husband loves his new wedding ring that I had ordered from you in August/September of last year. He originally had a platinum band that matched my grandmother's 2 carat diamond and platinum ring. We've only been married for 3 years and my husbands platinum ring is scraped and dented like you wouldn't believe. I was betting on your company to save the day! And boy, did you ever! I picked out the Spiral II for my husband, Jason, and hung it on the tree for him to find Christmas morning. He loved it so much, he cried! And then showed it off to everyone! A couple of weeks later, he was working with the his new titanium ring on, and had hit his hand on concrete so hard it left a mark in the concrete where his new ring had hit it. But there wasn't even a tiny scratch on his new ring! Now, we know your testimonials are true! Thank you. This ring, he can wear and own forever and pass down along with all of our other heirloom jewels. Not something he could have done with his last wedding ring. We can't thank you enough. Plus, I paid a fraction of the cost with your company for my husband's much more durable and beautiful wedding ring than I did for his plain platinum band that didn't last very long. AND your costumer service and attentiveness towards the spe! cifics of my special order was fast, reliable and friendly! I've fallen in love with your company and its products. I only wish I had known about you sooner, we would have bought my wedding ring from you, too. I hope you keep this letter in your company file. We are truly pleased costumers! Thank you bunches! Happy New Year to all of you from our family to yours, Apry (R-F), Jason (and little Joseph) F

Colleen, I would just like to take a moment to thank everyone there that helped me. I received my ring today and I just love it! Now I only have to hope John does...but I am pretty sure he will :-) Thank you again for everything!

Troy

Colleen,Beth, et al.: I have received the ring . . . it's perfect, Thank you. I think that in the daily grind, it is easy to forget how important certain things are . . . like what you create. The "whole" quote, from which the engraving came, is . . . "Your love is your own private possession, but marriage is more than something personal - it is a status, an office. Just as it is the crown, and not merely the rule, that makes the king, so it is marriage, and not merely your love for each other, that joins you together in the sight of God and man. It is not your love that sustains the marriage, but from now on, the marriage that sustains your love." --Deitrich Bonhoeffer (Letters from Prison) So thank you for your commitment to me and my pleasure in the symbol of this office I hold so dear. I shall wear it forever and it shall serve as a reminder of that commitment. You have been a pleasure. Troy (ptc)

We received Tad's ring yesterday and it is beautiful! He loves how light it is, as well as the beautiful craftsmanship.....he works with sheet metal, including titanium, so he knows good work when he sees it!!
Ivan S

Hello, my name is Ivan S and my fiancee is Tamara G. We ordered Polished Aria wedding bands in Aircraft Grade Titanium. We just received them yesterday morning. THEY ARE JUST FANTASTIC! Even your website pictures as great as they are, can not do them justice! And price!!! We sampled titanium wedding bands in the mall. Only two of about seven jewelers are carrying them! They do not look even close as good or sophisticated and they were starting at $800.00 US!!! When we were ordering from your company, I thought it was a scam when I saw your pricing! We went back to those stores that showed us their inventory reluctantly. They just about had heart attacks when they saw these rings. They asked about the price. We giggled, told them to cut their price to one third and then showered them with the fact that it was for both rings! Paramedics, anyone! They do not understand. It is not just about price, but quality and reputation of a craftsmanship of a company that does so many different models out of one of hardest materials known to man, daily! We'll be back for those anniversaries. Oh, yeah, expect a flood of inquires from California. Word of mouth is spreading faster than a virus. Thanks a million! We will be more than proud to wear these for the rest of our lives! Now if we can only wait for August 21st! Sincerely, Ivan S

I received my rings on Friday - they are more beautiful in my hand than they are on your website! I cannot begin to tell you how pleased I am and will recommend your company to all my friends. I was so nervous, 1., ordering on the web, ordering items you cannot handle can be scary, and 2., I was afraid I would not get the rings in time. We are getting married in Vegas on Thurs and I cannot wait, we keep taking the rings out and trying them on .... Thank you again! Patee M Intranet Specialist

Dear all at the Arnell Workshop, I just wanted to send you a little email to convey my thanks for your excellent service, and beautiful rings. I ordered 'The Juggler' from you in May. My boyfriend and I got engaged on the 29th of June, and although not normally a jewellery man, he wears his ring with enormous pride. In fact, he likes it so much that we will probably get his wedding ring through you - when that time comes! Thank you once again. Kind regards from Nicola

I would like to start out by saying thank you. My fiance and I ordered his wedding ring on a Tuesday had it made as a "rush order" and received the ring this morning (Friday)! (just in time for our weekend to Vegas). Talk about great service and great pricing as well. The ring it self is beautiful and can't wait until he starts wearing it! I will definitely recommend your business with high praise!!! Once again THANK YOU Sincerely ....Nick & Melisa P.S. Do you have any future plans to make titanium bracelets? I think a matching bracelet would compliment a titanium ring also a great valentine/anniversary gift.

I received the ring today. It is beautiful. My wife walked in the house just after I did, so I broke down and gave it to her early. She loves it. My concern and curiosity was that she has allergies with jewelry. (...)We have tried different metals in the past, but she is allergic to all of them. She has been wearing the titanium ring since I gave it to her without any problems. This has been approx. 2+ hours. It looks like titanium is the answer. Thanks, Richard

That's the highest praise I could send you fine folks from a former Marine. I'm proudly wearing the polished slim profile 15 mm wide ring I recently ordered. I absolutely love it. The strength of it as well as the unique look are without words to describe it. To say it's not artistry in the craftsmanship in which it was made would be a bold face untruth. I especially appreciate the fact of the certificate that accompanies the ring, telling it's own special story. So in closing let me say as an basic, regular guy, my thanks to you Roy and your fine personnel that I couldn't have asked for anything better. Keep up the good work. With Regards -Denton

Dear Roy and Chenoa,
Many thanks for a wonderful ring received last night, and the material metallurgy certificate and your workshop received today. Your workmanship has surpassed my expectations, and you have created a reason for me to be excited when some other things around me are not. I will be proudly wearing the ring from the 10th March, and more than likely will get another one for an anniversary. Again, many thanks and I applaud your customer service as well. -David (from Australia)

My name is Mika'il and my wife's name is Kaia. We are proud owners of the matching boy's and girl's versions of the Abyss ring. We got married in January of this year and those are excellent bands for the couple who is tired of the same old thing. Leading up to that and afterwards, the shop of Roy, Chenoa, Frederica, and company have delivered the most incredible customer service that I have ever seen. It just makes you feel guilty that the prices of the rings are not expensive. I thank you thoroughly. Take care MP. and Kaia

Hi
We just wanted to let you know that the FedEx parcel arrived without a problem.
We sat down together tonight after supper and made a big deal about the opening.It was worth it!
The rings are excellent! Beautiful! Fantastic!
Both rings (spiral 1 and spiral 2) are just what we hoped for and the inscriptions are exactly what we wanted and they are to the letter of what we wanted to say. We tried them on for size and feel, and both are like a dream, outstanding workmanship on both of them. We truely didn't want to take them off, but since we are not getting married for a couple months, we reluctantly did. The excitement for our wedding day has doubled now that we have your magnificent rings to look forward to wearing.
Thank you for the prompt delivery of our rings and a special thank you to your staff, Chenoa and Frederica, the person or persons that did the great workon our rings. They all made our first purchase on the internet something to remember and an experience to enjoy. Thank you so VERY much for everything Chris and Colleen: o )
PS...
To All at The Titanium Workshop involved with our order: We would like to thank you for making our rings. We received them last Friday and everything is wonderful. They fit beautifully! You have made us both so pleased with what is our unique wedding bands. When we first decided that we would like Titanium bands, we didn't even know if any jewellers dealt with that metal. We found your site on the internet and couldn't have made a better choice. You were all wonderful in your service, attention to detail, professionalism and patience in answering our questions. You have given us a lifetime symbol of what is special between us and we thank you again for two wonderful rings. We hope you take great pride in what you do and deservedly so. Many thanks again!
Hi Beth, I wanted to let you know that all went well. In fact, I have attached a photo of the titanium wedding band along with my wifes wedding band to this e-mail. I would've e-mailed you earlier however, as my wife and I were driving down our private drive heading to South Lake Tahoe, the FedEx man was waiting for us at the entry gate with the correct ring! So, needless to say my wife and I were able to be married with the proper ring and not the temporary one I was sent earlier. Thank you so much for getting the ring to me in time. It was a big concern of my wifes and I...but you rose to my occasion and for that, you will always have my business. I will also highly recommend you and your company to friends and family members as well as co-workers. I won't be back at work until tomorrow but if I get the same reaction from co-workers as I have from family concerning the ring, you're website will be getting several more hits. Thanks again for all of your help and thank you for doing business with me. Sincerely, Carlos S

Tanya, I received the ring in the mail yesterday and it is awesome. My fiance just absolutely loved it. He had been shopping for rings for awhile and he couldn't make up his mind and as soon as he went on your website he was definite that he HAD to have the bumblebee. I tried so many times to talk him into something else but he would not budge off that ring. I wasn't going to let him see it until we got married (tomorrow) but he was so into that ring I had to show him. Needless to say he was all smiles and absolutely loved it. I want to thank all of you for the great work and for putting up with my impatience, thinking it wouldn't get here on time. You did a fantastic job of making it and getting it here all in about one weeks time. Thanks so much. I think that ring is going to make him happier than I am. You guys were great!!!!!! Thanks so much again Cheryl M.

The craftsmanship is excellent and the diamond looks great. Now all I have to do is present it to my bride-to-be. Thanks again, Edwin L :)

Fred, The ring arrived this morning just as promised. I can see that I chose the right ring makers. It is absolutely gorgeous. We did a quick test fit, with her eyes closed of course, and the size is dead on. I dropped it off at a local jeweler this afternoon to have a sappire set into it. (As a side note, sappire gets its blue color from titanium trapped in the corundum mineral matrix. Titanium set in titanium!) If you would like, I could send a photo of the ultimate titanium engagement ring when I get it back. Thank you very much for a job well done.

Mary & Andrew

Dear Fred: Our rings arrived today. Andrew looovvess his, and didn't want to take it off!! Mary is lukewarm, but that's a better responce than most other rings would allow. The problem is: big knuckles, skinny fingers, and I am a Physiotherapist so work with my hands "naked" most of the time. I am hoping that my skinny fingers will soon be filled out by the summer heat, and hopefully pregnancy [God willing]. This way, I won't need a ring cutter!! The engraving is beautifully done; we are happy with how it looks. Thanks again, and use this in your list of testemonials. Mary & Andrew

Hi Mr. Gagne, Just want to compliment you on a couple things. Your technical descriptions are a lot more successful in creating an accurate picture in my mind of the material, compared to other sites. Great price! Great attitude! I hope you don't find the ring business gets too pressuring. I think it may. Oh, great pictures too. Many non-amateur sites offer useless pictures. Yours are very clear. Surely, machining is an affair of the heart with you. Thank you for sharing! Sincerely, Marc H Moncton, NB

Dear Fred - Thank you SO much for all of your help. The rings came and they're so beautiful! (It will be even more special that we'll have the real rings for the ceremony, now.) Gary isn't used to wearing any jewelry other than a watch and he already really likes it. Again, we sincerely appreciate your efforts to get our order processed so quickly and can't thank you enough... Best Wishes, The soon to be Mr. & Mrs. H Arcata, California

Helen

Dear Fred: I just received your ring today and it's absolutely beautiful. I'm about to write a glowing report on your services, so if you want to add this to your list of client responses on your website, you have my permission. There were a number of things I was extremely impressed by your services and they are as follows: (1) I was really relieved when you replied so quickly to my order (you responded to my request either on the same day or the very next day). I've never ordered anything from the internet before and I was really apprehensive about giving out my credit card information but because you responded so quickly (actually, the fact that you even responded was a real relief) it made me feel as though my information was safe with a reliable person. (2) You actually sent me more than one e-mail and it was those e-mails that really made me feel as though I wasn't just sending my money into a black pit which I may never see again. I guess you were really able to provide customer service even through the computer. (3) In one of those e-mails you gave me the day I should expect to receive my ring from FedEx and it came exactly as promised. Thank you for being so true to your word. (4) Another one of my fears for purchasing over the internet is that I can't really take a good look and examine the workmanship of the product I would be ordering. But for all those reading this e-mail, I can attest that the workmanship of the titanium workshops rings are excellent. The ring I received is a comfort fit ring and the edges are smooth so that they won't cut into the flesh. (5) I'm really impressed that Titanium Workshop provides their clients with the choice to engrave a short phrase inside the ring at such a reasonable cost, it really personalized the ring. I think the above mentioned items were the things I was most impressed by your services. There may have been more but that's all I can remember at the moment. I would also add that I do not know anybody who works at Titanium Workshop or any of their friends and family (because I'm sometimes quite suspicious of glowing customer responses when I read them from the internet). Finally, I will definitely be referring your business to my friends. Thank you for such a beautiful ring, Helen from Edmonton, Alberta (Canada)

Amanda B

I just wanted all of you to know that I am SO pleased with the ring! You even got it to me Three days early! Now I can prepare for Valentine's Day. I extend my deepest gratitude for everyone's hard work and effort- it was Well worth it- you made two people Very happy! I now know who to recommend for any type of engagement ring for the making! All your other selections were very tempting, I'll be back for more! Sincerely, Amanda B

Kim & George

Fred, I received the ring today from FedEx. They are just beautiful!!! The beauty of your company's craftsmanship can't be realized until you actually hold these objects of art in your hands! I am very satisfied with the rings, your responses and assistance, and your company. And now a few words from my fiancee. Kim
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Fred, Not to echo Kim, but these rings are very cool. Both fit us perfectly. The engraving is extremely nice and very readable. This is my first experience with the metal titanium. I'm pleased it can look so beautiful in the hands of such artisans as yours. Let's not dwell on the obvious, but we're going to enjoy these for a lifetime! Thanks again, George
Morgen
I got the ring you sent me and it's great. I haven't written only because life has been so busy and I've yet to give it to my boyfriend - for valentine's day and all. I will write againt to tell you how much he likes it - but I can tell you one thing now. It's grand! It's so light, I keep dropping it when I show people. And boy do I show people! Everyone must've seen it but him. Thank you so much for the prompt, personal service. Your prices are astoundingly lower than any others I could find online or anywhere AND you do them all personally and they're specially made. How fantastic! Thank you so much again, I will write to tell you how he reacts! - morgen
Erik O
Dear Fred, I have been pretty busy recently, sorry I have not written you sooner. I received the ring several days earlier than anticipated, and I could not be more pleased with it! It is exactly what I expected. Having never worn a ring before, I was a little nervous about the size (about the only part of the process that I could not leave to you guys, the experts). I followed your recommendations and was sized at a local jeweler using the same width of ring, but I was not certain how tight or loose it really should be. The jeweler just said it was a matter of personal preference. When my Ti ring showed up, I had just come in from the cold, and I was nervous that I had specified it a little too big. But as my hand warmed up, the ring fit better and better, to the point where I think I got the right size. I am still a little nervous that I might find that it is too small when summer rolls around (and the ambient temperature rises), but I am guessing it will still be perfect. It has been a pleasure doing business with you guys, you did exactly what you promised (actually, you were even a little faster!) and I could not be more pleased! I will recommend you to anyone I know looking for a titanium ring. Keep up the good work. Sincerely, Erik O
Lillia
Thank you SO much for your spectacular service!!!! I got the ring today, completely unexpectedly. I really greatly appreciate your amazing speed. Thank you so much!
Dustin
Thanks Titanium Workshop!!... I love my ring. It looks great and fits perfect! I was concerned about the size of the ring and how the "comfort fit" might make it a bit wide - but not to worry, your sleak design feels at home on my finger. The only problem is that my fiance won't let me wear it out until the wedding day. I can't wait! Thanks so much for your great service. Very Impressed, Dustin
The Abyss Replica Ring
In the 1989 underwater masterpiece drama The Abyss, Actor Ed Harris as "Bud" saves his own life by sticking his hand into a closing hydraulic emergency door as the compartment that he is in fills quickly with seawater. The wedding ring that he is wearing is what stops the door from closing and cutting off his hand. After he is rescued, he is rather grateful that he is wearing such a ring!
The movie was quite a success, and 12 years later, still has legions of fan-clubs, circles, newsgroups... also, people's interest got piqued by that mighty ring that saved Bud's life.
This special ring was conceived after the mention from a customer of ours about the use of a high grade titanium ring in this movie. The "high grade" is clearly mentioned in the script.
The "Abyss replica" ring was brought into creation by our company, as documented in the commentary in the DVD special edition of The Abyss movie. The website address shown in chapter 10 entitled "The Ring" shows our old internet URL http://titaniumengagement.com/abyss.html. (You can buy the replica ring on our {{widget type="catalog/product_widget_link" anchor_text="Abyss" template="catalog/product/widget/link/link_inline.phtml" id_path="product/29"}} page.)
This ring replica idea was successful enough, as you will now see "Abyss" rings showing in many places, but we are the only titanium jewellers who can brag about having our website mentioned in such a successful movie...
The following scene shows how the high-grade titanium wedding ring saves Bud's life :
Deeper into details...
Although it is not specifically said in the movie, Bud had his ring custom made from a piece of titanium. The book give many hints to the reader... "She noticed he was wearing the massive titanium band she'd bought him."
This ring style was carefully noted and reproduced in aircraft grade titanium (Ti 6Al/4V), as it is used in tactical submarines as well as higher level aeroplanes. A softer titanium grade (such as the base grade) would have deformed and pinched on Ed Harris' finger, but Bud's "high-grade", oversized wedding ring could actually withstand such a treatment. "The harder-than-steel wedding band Lindsey had given him. The door could bend it a little - He could feel the pressure on his finger - but it couldn't break it or crush it."
Bud's ring is very wide : close to 15mm in width. It is also quite thick to resist the hydraulic door treatment. Its aspect looks close to a raw "industrial cut", with no specific jewellery finish, making it look very manly and strong!
All our rings come with a choice of jewellery finishes for aesthetics and more refined aspect, but you can always choose the raw finish for a more authentic look. We do not use titanium tubing to make our rings. Each ring is carved from a solid bar of the metal.
You can buy the replica ring on our {{widget type="catalog/product_widget_link" anchor_text="Abyss" template="catalog/product/widget/link/link_inline.phtml" id_path="product/29"}} page.
1. What color is titanium?
In short, titanium is a white metal with a smoky charcoal grey hue. its natural color is darker and deeper than silver or white gold. Visit our finishes page for detailed information on color and finishings.
Back to top
2. Does titanium come in different colors?
Titanium is a reactive metal that can be anodized in different colors by thermal or electrolytic processes. This type of treatment is not permanent. An anodized piece of titanium jewelry would quickly appear scratched and discolored. We do not engage in this process. We do offer Diamond Coating options, as described on our finishes page.
3. Is a titanium ring scratch-proof?
We would love to say, “yes!” but it is not so. Like any other ring, a titanium band will eventually become lightly scratched and could show scuff marks from everyday wear.
4. Do you offer a “rush” service?
Yes, we do. Please visit our ordering / shipping page for information on rush delivery.
Back to top
5. Can my ring be cut off my finger in case of emergency?
Yes, it can. Even stronger titanium alloys can be cut without much difficulty. We have performed tests on a 6AI/4V ring with a basic (manual) ring cutter, and it cut through in under 2 minutes. Hospital and paramedic ring cutters are usually electric and would be even quicker.
Back to top
6. What if my ring does not fit?
If you mistakenly ordered the wrong size or you were improperly sized, our warranty covers sizing up to 1/2 size loosening or 1/4 size tightening with use of a titanium rod. This is applicable for most styles at no additional charge. See warranty page for more information. Following the guidelines on our sizing page will help ensure you order the correct size.
Back to top
7. What happens if I do not like my ring once I have it on my hand?
That does not happen often... however, we do have a return policy. You will find it on the returns page.
Back to top
8. Do your rings come with a “comfort fit”?
As a general rule, all ring edges are slightly rounded and smooth to avoid the discomfort of sharp edges. Most of our rings are crafted with traditional comfort fit. Some styles (such as the classic {{widget type="catalog/product_widget_link" anchor_text="Stealth" template="catalog/product/widget/link/link_inline.phtml" id_path="product/60"}} and most tension settings) cannot be crafted this way, so we make these rings with what we call a semi-comfort fit. This ensures a nice, tight fit with all required comfort. If you have questions regarding the comfort of a selection prior to ordering, please send us an email at support@titaniumrings.com
Back to top
9. I have large knuckles. Rings that fit over my knuckle tend to feel too loose on my finger. What do you suggest?
A ring with a greater width may sit better on your finger. Browse our {{widget type="catalog/category_widget_link" anchor_text="men's titanium rings" template="catalog/category/widget/link/link_inline.phtml" id_path="category/9"}} or {{widget type="catalog/category_widget_link" anchor_text="women's titanium rings" template="catalog/category/widget/link/link_inline.phtml" id_path="category/10"}} to select a wide-width band that will suit you. Also, for no additional charge we can add a tightening rod to the inside of the band to help take up some of the excess looseness on the finger. Visit our sizing page for more information.
Back to top
10. What kind of titanium do you use?
All of the rings we sell are made from an aircraft grade titanium, commonly used in the aerospace industry. It is Titanium 6AI/4V. It was developed in the 1950s and contains 90% titanium, 6% aluminum and 4% vanadium. It is the most widely available high strength titanium alloy. Because it is lightweight, neutral and has a high tensile strength, it is found in many applications in the sport and leisure industry and in contemporary jewelry.
Back to top
11. You say that titanium has high tensile strength. What does this mean?
Tensile strength refers to the amount of resistance that is required to withstand a force before something is permanently broken. You’ll find your titanium ring will maintain its perfect round shape without the deformity or bending that is commonly found in gold or silver rings.
Shipments returned to us without proper paperwork, customs declarations or with duties, taxes or freight charges owing will not be accepted and will be returned to sender.
Back to top
Changes in Ring Size
We will resize or replace any ring that we have accidentally crafted to an incorrect size from what was ordered.
Please read our sizing instructions prior to ordering your ring. If you have ordered an incorrect size or you require resizing (because over time your finger has changed size), you have some options.
Increasing Ring Size
We can increase the size of most rings by half of a ring size. Some ring models, such as the {{widget type="catalog/product_widget_link" anchor_text="Stealth" template="catalog/product/widget/link/link_inline.phtml" id_path="product/60"}}, rings with inlays, and stone settings only allow us to increase the ring size by 1/8 of a size.
If you require your ring size to be increased by more than these amounts, it will need to be re-crafted. Please read our Remake Fees (listed below) for instructions.
Decreasing Ring Size
We are not able to decrease the size of rings. However, we are the innovators in the creation of a tightening rod that we secure to the inside of your ring free of charge. Our tightening rod is a smooth titanium wire, about 10mm long, that we weld to the inside of the band.
Tightening rods decrease the ring size by about a quarter of a ring size. They are a comfortable option for people with larger knuckles. They also help reduce the movement of a ring and can make it easier to remove.
Keep in mind that a tightening rod may interfere with inside engraving on your ring.
Back to top
Exclusions
This warranty does not cover the following:
Defects that are the result of improper care, maintenance or repair.
Failures that result from abnormal strain, neglect, modification or accidental damage.
Products purchased from merchants other than TitaniumRings.com.
Products no longer owned by the original purchaser.
Precious metal inlays.
Diamonds and gemstones.
Changing from Satin to Polished finish
Back to top
Remake Fees
This fee chart applies in the event that your ring needs to be re-crafted. We seek to keep the fees to remake your jewelry as low as possible for you. They are arranged in $100 increments so you can easily calculate the fee for your particular item.
We have incorporated the reapplication of coatings in these fees. Please note; in the case of jewelry crafted with diamonds and/or gemstones we only consider the charges for the titanium parts.
Ring Sizing
Before you purchase a ring online, be sure of your ring size. A titanium ring will feel considerably lighter on your finger than other rings you have worn and there is very little chance that your titanium ring will warp or change shape over time, as happens with other rings. Your finger will love the feel of your titanium ring, and you want to make sure it is sized properly.
A properly-sized ring will fit comfortably on your finger, but will be a little hard to get off. Since the ring has to travel over your knuckle, the ring size is really the size of your knuckle, not the part of your finger below it.
Here are some tips for identifying your ring size:
Get measured by a jeweler
Provide us accurate measurements
Consider your knuckle
Men
{{widget type="cms/widget_block" template="cms/widget/static_block/default.phtml" block_id="7"}}
Get measured by a jeweler
We recommend measuring your ring size using steel rings, as used by professional jewelers. Paper strips or strings do not fit the finger as a steel ring, and it is impossible to gauge if a paper or string size moves comfortably over your knuckle. Plastic rings are less reliable than metal sizers. A mandrel, or tapered ring-measuring rod, is also not going to give an accurate measurement.
If you have a ring that fits you comfortably, take it to a jeweler and have it measured for size. Sizing should be measured from the center of the ring. Superimposing the ring on our ring sizer chart when it is printed out without paper scaling, will give you an approximate size. Although we have tried to make our ring sizer chart accurate as possible, it is not going to be as good as using a steel ring sizer.
Ring sizers and measuring techniques can vary from one jeweler to another. Get sized at a few different shops. If sizings vary, take the average.
Back to top
Provide us accurate measurements
Sizing is measured from the center of the ring. Providing us with your finger measurement as well as the inside diameter measurement and the width of the sizing ring used helps us the most. Please type this information in the “comments” area of the online order form when you place your order.
Ring sizing varies based on the width of the ring. Wider rings may require a ring size that is 1/8 or 1/4 size bigger than a narrow ring. When determining your ring size for your titanium ring, use a ring that is approximately the same width as your desired titanium ring.
Finger size can change with the time of the day. Fingers tend to be a bit enlarged in the morning and slightly smaller in the evening. Do your measurements in the early afternoon, when your finger is likely to be at its average size.
Back to top
Consider your knuckle
Some people have large knuckles, and rings that fit over the knuckle are way too big on the part of the finger below the knuckle. If this is the case for you, we can add a small, smooth tightening rod to your ring. It is a piece of titanium that is welded to the inside of the ring. We do this at no charge, but note that it may restrict the length of inside engraving possible on your ring.
Also, if you have larger knuckles, you might find a wider band more comfortable on your finger. Browse our titanium ring catalog to find a style that suits you.
Back to top
Men
Do not order an engagement ring unless you are sure of your fiancee’s ring size. Take her to a jeweler to get measured using steel measuring rings and using the guidelines we’ve suggested on this page. You will be glad to have gone through the extra effort.
Ring Finishes
The finish on your titanium ring refers to the exterior surface treatment the ring undergoes. The finish chosen enhances the design and affects the durability of the ring.
Because we offer engraving servings and tightening rod additions, customers sometimes send us titanium jewelry made by other ring makers. Unfortunately, although these rings were nice and shiny when new, the quality of the finishing is often quite poor. Lack of interior finishing, incomplete polishing, sharp edges, gouges and other blemishes on the surface show up under close inspection.
You need to understand that the finish treatment given is just as important to your ring as the design itself! Our rings are finished to a high-jewelry level - greater than many of the rings found in boutique jewelry stores. They can pass inspection under 10 power optical magnification. Our diligence towards your ring’s finish results in quality that you won’t find elsewhere on the internet.
About Titanium
Titanium is a white metal with a charcoal grey hue. It has a unique look which separates it from precious white metals. The color is darker and deeper than silver or white gold and it can be most closely compared to platinum, but with a smoky touch that makes it quite attractive in jewelry.
TitaniumRings.com offers 4 choices of finish on our titanium ring jewelry. No matter which finish you prefer, your ring will not tarnish or rust. Over time, your ring will acquire minor surface scratches or scuffs from everyday wear or rough handling, but a simple refinish procedure will restore your ring to virtually new brilliance.
Over years, a titanium ring that is not refinished will show a nice, fine patina - comparable to a satin finish - that many people love.
Browse our {{widget type="catalog/category_widget_link" anchor_text="men's titanium rings" template="catalog/category/widget/link/link_inline.phtml" id_path="category/9"}} or {{widget type="catalog/category_widget_link" anchor_text="women's titanium rings" template="catalog/category/widget/link/link_inline.phtml" id_path="category/10"}} to find specific rings made in each of these finishes:
Polished
A polished finish is very shiny, almost mirror-like. This finish can be compared to the look of other white precious metals which are highly polished, or chrome-coated objects.
Satin
A satin finish is similar to a brushed finish, with a visible directional texture. It reflects light differently than a polished finish and is less bright in appearance.
Diamond Plating Finish Options
5x Engineered Diamond Plating and Black Diamond Coating
White basic titanium is a strong metal with a high strength-to-weight ratio. However its low surface hardness and high surface friction results in poor resistance to superficial scratching and marring.
We have specialized and licensed a production process that permanently coats your ring in a combination of crystalline and non-crystalline diamond material. This process is second-to-none in terms of adding durability to your titanium ring. It combines with the titanium to create a protective layer so hard and low in surface friction that normal daily wear and tear marks will largely be resisted.
Please note: This is not comparable to information you may have read elsewhere about “black coating” on titanium. The diamond plating process we offer outperforms all other coatings that can be applied to titanium to change its color.
The more diamond coating layers added to the titanium, the darker the color. We offer two options; a 5x Engineered Diamond Plating that will give your ring a cool bluish shade or a full Black Diamond Coating option that results in a black diamond finish that is eye-catching and has unmatched durability.
This specialized diamond plating is chemically inert and will not react with acids or chemicals. It is silky smooth to the touch, providing a gleaming patina that produces no friction. If your ring appears to be scratched, light polishing will remove the marks.
Black diamond coating will never fade or turn color. The ultra-glossy, jet-black sheen brings together the dark smoothness of ebony and the rich glow of a South Sea pearl for an effect that is classic, elegant and contemporary in style.
We offer refinishing of rings purchased through this website free of charge, except for shipping charges to and from our workshop. Visit our warranty page for details on refinishing.
Our Workshop
Your titanium ring does not come to you picked from a shelf in a stocked warehouse. It comes from our workshop. We do not make your ring in our workshop until you place your order. From the very beginning, your ring is created with you in mind.
TitaniumRings.com designers and machinists have over 20 years experience working with titanium metal. We are often asked the simple question, “Why titanium?”
We do not make your ring in our workshop until you place your order. From the very beginning, your ring is created with you in mind.
Titanium is a metal that is widely used in aircraft, armor plating, naval ships, spaceships and missiles, due to its high tensile strength to density ratio, resistance to corrosion and fatigue and its ability to withstand high temperatures.
TitaniumRings.com owner, Roy Arnell, was an experienced manufacturer of titanium products for other industries. He had the inspired idea to use his expertise in working with titanium to make a titanium engagement ring. Friends, family and strangers on the street began begging Roy to make rings for their special occasions and a new business was born.
As Roy began to apply his titanium experience to making titanium rings, he realized that titanium has many ideal qualities for use as jewelry.
The Abyss replica ring
Durability - In the 1989 underwater masterpiece movie The Abyss, actor Ed Harris sticks his hand into a closing hydraulic emergency door as the compartment he is in fills quickly with water. His titanium wedding ring stops the door from closing, saving his life.
The Abyss movie success drove people to want a ring like the one Ed Harris wore. We have the prestige of being the original company to create The Abyss replica ring.
Although you may not find yourself in this kind of life-or-death situation, we understand the importance of durability in the jewelry you wear every day!
Compatibility - The medical industry has used titanium for years to make surgical and dental implants because, in addition to its durability, titanium is hypoallergenic and inert. Inert means that it is not readily reactive with other chemical elements. It creates no pharmacologic action.
It will simply look beautiful on your finger, amazing your friends, without causing any other reactions in your body. People with gold or silver allergies will not have problems wearing titanium rings.
Rarity - Titanium itself is not a rare metal; but titanium rings have a one of a kind appearance that is noticed by others. People will comment on your ring, recognizing that it has a quality that stands out from other jewelry. Be prepared to talk about your ring and we always appreciate when our customers give us a reference.
These qualities alone don’t make a great piece of jewelry. TitaniumRings.com boasts many firsts that make us the perfect choice for your special piece:
We were the first to adopt the precision computer-aided machinery that cuts your ring from blocks of high grade titanium.
We were the first to design the now popular tension settings rings.
We were the first to offer full titanium prongs to hold your gem securely in place.
We were the first to explore the black diamond coating technology, bringing it into jewelry production and we have licensed our process.
We were the first to offer great titanium ring jewelry with exceptional customer service via web technology.
As more great people realized the benefits of titanium ring jewelry, our workshop has expanded. But even though we were the innovators in making titanium rings, we haven’t become comfortable with the status quo. In our workshop, we continually seek new techniques, new technology and new designs to keep TitaniumRings.com ahead of the other jewelry manufacturers.
Our workshop is waiting to make your special ring. Your finger is waiting to wear it.
